This week in class we worked a lot on our group essay about our summer reading books. Now I know I read all of the books, but going into group projects there is always that fear that your group members didn't read their books and you will do all of the work. Luckily, because we are in a more advanced class they both did. Group essays or even projects are not always easy though, even if all member did their share of work.
One of the biggest problems with group projects is the difference of opinions and ideas, can the member all agree on the same thing. Now my group never really fought but we did have some disagreements on what to write about. However, our group found this healthy because we realized that our ideas are not always the correct ones and that what we read one way, they interputated another. . There is a quote that says "a true team is when you put aside individual wants for collective good". This really spoke to me personally because it's very true. when in teams or groups it can't be all about you, individuals need to compromise and then the final product will be better.
Another difficult thing is, that when you work in groups and write papers, not everyone has the same voice. Individuals all write differently and use different language. This is a great thing when you are writing alone but sometime when you write with others, all of the voices mesh together and it could possibly become too messy. The story could not flow right and be confusing. Finding that happy medium is hard but I think it just makes you a better writer in end, if you work together and understand everything for all aspects of perspective.
Teams or groups are not only not always easy to work with but through communication, teamwork, acceptance and understanding, groups can be a great thing, you just have to let it be.
