Success is often defined by materialistic items such as a nice car, a giant house, or even a fancy job and of course a boat load of money. The "successful people" in this world probably have all of this plus more; a college degree from an outstanding university, a happy family, and is popular among peers. As I said in my tragedy blog, these people are perceived as "more successful" if they have these things. However, a person can be very successful but not have any or very few of these things. Society however will not see them as they same because they do not stack up against the others.
Everyone needs to have their own personal level of success. The definition of success is literally, "The accomplishment of an aim or purpose". This says nothing about the afore mentioned items, but we still hold people to that level of success. What people need to realize though is that everyone in this world should and needs to have their own level of success, a goal that they set for themselves that they can achieve; because to be honest not everyone in this world can live up the the standard society has given them.
The spectrum of success is very broad, some people find success in getting a college degree, others find it in getting a high school diploma. Just because they did not go to college does not mean they won't be successful. For some of those people, graduating high school could have seemed impossible. Those people however achieved a goal, making themselves successful. Those people could also join the workforce and perform task that go right over my head. They could join the military which in my opinion is one of the honorable things in this world to do. You cannot tell me this people are not successful, because they are, but in a different way than what we as a society tell them is.
Society puts labels on everything, success is one that needs to come off. Success is different in everyone eyes. Materialistic items, while very cool do not mean anything when someone achieves a goal. Success should be praised at every level, because a person should not consistently try to live up to societies standards of success-- because that person is probably already successful in their own way, they just don't know it.
