A man trying to get to the law is blocked by a door and by a doorkeeper. He is not allowed at the moment but "it is possible to be granted admittance later". The man thinks about it, and the doorkeeper says "if you are so drawn to it, just try to go in despite my veto", he also adds that there are more guards behind him, who are even stronger. The man "decides that it is better to wait until he gets permission to enter". This is the problem though because he waits his entire life to be admitted. Fast forward many, many years the man is still waiting and death is knocking. With one last plea the man begs for admittance and asks why nobody else all these years had. The doorkeeper responses with a simple answer " no one else could ever be admitted here, since this gate was made only for you".
The lesson in this speaks volumes, because when he finally did something about not be admitted, he was granted access. The man literally waited for years and years for something to happen yet nothing did. Things won't be changed over people doing nothing-- especially laws. If you want something in life, you need to work for it; do not sit around waiting for something good to happen. If the man would have just fought a little bit harder, he could have been admitted years ago. He let fear control him, he does not even know for a fact that there were more guards behind that door, he just waited for the circumstance to change.
In Antigone we are shown the complete opposite. Despite laws and an impending death, Antigone did not sit around and wait for the law to be changed so she could properly bury her brother. She did not beg her uncle to make an exception, he went out and did what she believed was right. She sparked an action, to honor her brother the proper way. Antigone still died but what she did not know, was that the law was changed. This would have not been possible if, she did not take action. Her risk changed something bigger.
So the moral is don't sit around and wait for bad or unlucky circumstances to change. If you want something to change, action is a lot better than waiting. Nothing ever got done by somebody sitting around and waiting. Laws are there for reason but just like everything sometimes they are meant to be broken.
